Our Thoughts On The Alto Professional TX212

In this review of the Alto TX212 we are going to be covering 5 important areas which include key features, what we like, pros and cons, who is this product best suited to and what customers who have bought the speaker are saying about it.

Ready? Let’s get started with this speakers key specifications:

Speaker Size: 12″ – Watts RMS: 300 – Watts Peak: 600 –Dimensions: 23.7 x 13.7 x 15 inches – Weight: 34.6 lbs

Key Features

  • Easy to Transport – The biggest positive with the Alto Professional TX212 is just how easy this is to transport. Coming in at just over 34 pounds, it’s not exactly a feather-weight, but the compact design and the incorporation of the carry handle make it a lot easier to tote around.

  • High-Performance Amp – Featuring a 300-watt continuous power output and 600-watt peak output, the amp in this model has plenty of power. It can push sound over a much longer distance than its predecessor. The sound is loud, clear, and true.

  • High-Temperature Voice Coil – It can be a nuisance to blow the voice coil in your speakers. If you do this during a professional performance, you’ll lose money and possibly damage your professional reputation.

The voice coil in this model is designed to take a beating, which makes it a lot more reliable for high-intensity sound over longer-lasting performances.
  • Connectivity Covered – As a professional musician, you’ll want to make sure your equipment is simple to connect and easy to maintain connectivity. This is why the TX212 have new connectivity features, balanced XLR Mic/Line input, Link Output and Volume control, integrated analogue limiter and overload protection circuitry.

What We Like

  • Price – The price is pretty good considering what you are getting. Most people will blow the tweeters relatively quickly, but even if you factor in replacing the tweeters for something a bit better, the price is not bad.

  • Great Cabinet Design – These have got to be one of the lightest cabinets that we have put our hands on. The handles also make them easier to carry. We love the sleek, modern look of the cabinets as well.

  • Sound Quality – You’re getting a whole lot of speaker for the money. The sound produced is clear and true, and it cranks up nicely. Overall, this works well for a venue that is slightly larger, or for a noisier crowd as this is a powered pa speaker

We didn’t put it all the way up to full volume – according to many users, that’s the perfect way to blow the amp – but even so, it produced a pretty good level of sound. We didn’t hear the pops and hisses that you often find with cheaper models.

  • Good Performance Over a Longer Set – We had our doubts initially about the passive heating tech, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that it was actually quite effective, even after extended playtime.

Pros +
  • Good price
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to transport
  • Good sound
  • Runs quietly
Cons –
  • Not ideal for playing heavy bass
  • You’ll probably have to replace the tweeters

Who Is This Speaker Best Suited To

This model is aimed at professional musicians who are playing in a slightly larger venue. We wouldn’t advise using it for a large outdoor concert venue, but it will work admirably well in a large hall. Overall, performance-wise, this is more of an entry-level model because the range is limited.

If you’re playing music that is heavy on the bass, this might not deliver the kind of performance that you would like. It’s pretty good at mid-range to higher tones but is a little lacking when it comes to bass. It’s not that it won’t hit the low notes, it’s more that the sound will lack depth coming out of the speakers. If you’re a basshead, this is not the best choice for you.

What Customers Are Saying

Users, in general, love the overall design and performance of the speakers, especially at the low price. Musicians love that these DJ speakers are so lightweight and that the cabinet design includes handles. Most users were pleasantly surprised at how much lighter these were than other available options.

Performance-wise, most users were pleased with the results. The general consensus was that you shouldn’t crank up the volume past halfway or you’d risk blowing the speakers. Most users cautioned that you would need to swap out the tweeters.

Overall, most users felt that these were still a good buy. They liked the sound and the design, and they felt that having to replace the tweeters was a minor issue.

The Bottom Line

We recommend these speakers as long as you understand what you are getting into. These are high-performance speakers, but you do need to be careful about cranking them up to full volume.

If you factor in the price and the cabinet design, they’re still worth getting (even if you replace the tweeters for ones of better quality). If you want to prolong the longevity of the onboard tweeters, we’d advise not pushing them too much.

Would we use these for an outdoor concert with a few thousand people attending? Probably not. Would we recommend them for a closed in venue accommodating the same amount of people? Yes, we would. We would, however, advise you to temper your expectations here.
